Anna certainly requires no defense from me, but I would just like to point out the irony that the writer asks that "the List should retain its cherished non-partisan, professional focus"...right after a long thesis comparing Anna's views to Soviet Communist propaganda and identifying her as a "radical feminist", clearly in this case meant to be an insult. Anna appears to have touched many a privileged nerve in the course of this conversation.

I agree that we ought to keep this on a non-partisan professional basis. Let's offer up evidence, as Anna has done quantitatively, and measured reasoning, rather than emotional displays or political sniping. Let's graciously and equitably consider that both sides have legitimate arguments. Let's put our heads together and try and find a solution that satisfies everyone, if we can. We're professionals, after all, and we ought to be able to cooperate on something that benefits the entire membership.

That said, I would also suggest to Peter's partisans that if they are tired of the posts of people like Anna and myself and others who would like a change in the listserv's structure, you take your own advice that you gave to us, and simply delete the posts that don't interest you. I hear it's remarkably simple to do.

Be well, all.
